Abstract

The oxygen consumption rates of the tissue of organs in male albino rats were measured under the hypoxic condition by Warburg manometric method.
Oxygen consumption rates of all the organs in the rats which were killed by ether anesthesia were significantly elevated, where as the rats decapitated after a series of repeated ether anesthesia for 10 days showed decreased oxygen consumption rates in all the organs.
The brain tissue was more sensitively reacted to the various low oxygen contents, as compared with the other tissues studied.
Oxygen consumption rates of the endocrine tissues as well as other organs were decreased under the low temperature.
However, these endocrine organs, particularly testicle, were not affected by hypoxic conditions in contrast with the other organs which showed marked decrease.
This fact was assumpted to be due an action of certain enzyme in this organ and it appcares to need further study.
